The Block Corruption, also referred by other names such as The Void or The Glitch, is an enigmatic pitch-black corrupting presence that exists inside of Minecraft and is the overarching antagonist of the Animation vs. Minecraft Shorts, specifically acting as the main antagonist of Animation vs. Minecraft Shorts Season 5.

It originally appeared as an unexplained phenomenon in the backstory shown in "The King", which resulted in Gold icon Gold being deleted while inside of the Minecraft Simulation Booth and therefore, is the catalyst behind the events of Season 3, until its sudden return in "Hardcore Manhunt", where it becomes the reasons why the game is stuck in hardcore mode and influencing the Helpers into turning against the stick figures.

Despite appearing as a computer glitch, when the corruption once again returned in the Far Lands, it acted as a living thing that sought to consume the stick figures as it chased them across dimensions and created dimensional rifts from its corruptive presence tearing apart the game, leading to the gang, Purple and King Orange all becoming separated. They are possibly related to the Creature.

History

The King - AVM Shorts Episode 30

The corruption first appeared years prior when Gold icon Gold was seen trying out Minecraft inside the simulation booth at the city fair. Despite everything going normal at first, an error appeared on the system that caused the Developers to panic and try to force the simulation to shut down. Immediately after realizing this, King Orange icon King Orange saw the Minecraft sun suddenly turn pitch black behind Gold as he was crafting an iron sword.

Noticing the sun's color change, a glitch burst from the sun caused the corruption to begin spreading and infecting everything, making Gold flee as he exited out of the game. However, despite entering the hallway, the corruption was still infecting the simulation as it was powerful enough to make Gold start glitching out and pull him back inside, where the sun's explosion caused the entire simulation to crash, deleting everything including Gold.

Hardcore Manhunt - AVM Shorts Episode 37

The corruption returns when TSC Head The Second Coming is hanging out with Yellow icon Yellow, Red icon Red, Blue icon Blue and Green icon Green inside of Minecraft as they wait for Purple. Having fallen asleep, The Second Coming somehow dreams of the corruption infecting the Overworld, as if being alerted to its presence before it reached them. Waking up from his "nightmare", he brushes it off as just a dream as the six go on their way.

Subtle hints to the corruption's incoming arrival are seen when Yellow is using his Staff to change the location of the new house he "built" and eventually, the next day when Green is fighting against some armor stand helpers Yellow conjured to life with the staff, The Second Coming notices a strange rippling effect traveling across the Overworld from an unknown point of origin. The burst becomes stronger as everyone quickly becomes aware of the strange corrupting effect it has on the world, causing a nearby chest to start glitching.

The effect of the corruption is so strong that not even the Command Block in the staff can undo it. Despite Yellow's attempts, he accidentally gets the staff too close to the chest, which allows the corruption to spread over to it and make it go haywire. It begins making random commands, one of them accidentally teleporting King Orange who is nearby to the Far Lands, until it eventually sets the game on Hardcore. Not understanding the change to their hearts, Red begins punching Green but is stopped by The Second Coming before he can kill him, due to him having a bad feeling about the change and they decide to test it out on one of the seven armor stands as Green kills them with a Netherite sword and after several seconds, everyone realizes it didn't respawn and that they all have one life only, with the staff's corrupted state rendering it unable to turn back the difficulty.

Despite Yellow supposedly pulling the corruption out of the staff, the staff is disintegrated by the corruption as a result, giving the Helpers the courage to attack the Stick Gang.

The Far Lands - AVM Shorts Episode 38

After temporarily agreeing not to attack each other, Purple and the Stick Gang journey into the Far Lands with Quartz Spire to find food and get out of the powdered snow. Upon entering, they notice one of the tunnels off to the side showing signs of corruption and despite everyone intially trying to move forward, The Second Coming correctly assumes it to be dangerous and they forego that path.

Unfortunately, later on, the glitch within the Far Lands intensifies and sends Red and Blue to a jungle biome, King Orange and Purple into an Aether biome, and The Second Coming and Yellow into an unknown biome. Green and Quartz Spire, meanwhile, are abducted by some sort of mysterious creature that seems to be related to the glitches.
